Two Day Seascape – Alison Whateley

January 9, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

This workshop is suitable for those who have already had some experience in free motion machine embroidery.

On day one we will look at planning our piece. I will provide lots of inspiration in the form of photographs and samples of my own work, but if you have a particular photo of a coastal scene that you would like to interpret in fabric and stitch do bring it along and we will see what we can do.

Once you have sketched out your design, I will talk you through the best fabrics to use and how to put them together. You can then make a start gathering the fabrics for your piece. We will start with the sky and gradually work down the piece, constructing the sea and then the beach area. At all stages I will demonstrate the techniques I use.
By the end of the day I would expect you to have started building you picture, and have done the sky and be working on the sea.

On day two you will continue to build your picture, finishing the sea area and moving onto the beach where you can add more detail in the form of rocks and pebbles etc.
Finally we will mount our pieces so that they are all ready for you to take away and frame.

The size of your finished piece will be 14”x10”

IMPORTANT… A sewing machine that can be adapted for free motion machine embroidery (you will need to be able to drop the feed dog or have a plate that will fit over the top).
Free motion / darning foot compatible with your machine.
